<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3GJv9OvFIGU/U8BENzmnIEI/AAAAAAAACwo/JFSMhTYvAmA/s1600/voxbox-blogimage-popup2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3GJv9OvFIGU/U8BENzmnIEI/AAAAAAAACwo/JFSMhTYvAmA/s1600/voxbox-blogimage-popup2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
I got a new box from Influenster last month. The Spring Fling Vox contained:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>a full size <a href="http://facebook.com/rimmellondonus" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Rimmel London</a> Scandalous Eyes Retro Glam Mascara</li>
<li>a pack of Kiss Everlasting French Nails</li>
<li>a Peach scented air Freshener to promote the Labor Day Movie</li>
<li>a box of Playtex Sport Fresh balance tampons</li>
<li>a sample of <a href="http://www.facebook.com/niveausa" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Nivea</a> Skim Firming Hydration Lotion</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7OdeF3mcf6U/U8BI6VqSHwI/AAAAAAAACw4/Dguob8LT-HY/s1600/2014-06-17+16.29.26.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7OdeF3mcf6U/U8BI6VqSHwI/AAAAAAAACw4/Dguob8LT-HY/s1600/2014-06-17+16.29.26.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The Air Freshener smelled terrible. This was a let down since I actually liked Labor Day Movie. I reviewed Labor Day back in February and you can <a href="http://notthecarmedia.com/2014/02/movie-review-labor-day/" target="_blank">read my review here</a>. I don't wear glue on nails so i gave them to my daughter who got 2 days of wear out of them. While they are cute i wouldn't buy them. The Nivea lotion was better it was non-greasy, but you needed to use a lot and i've never been a fan of the smell of Nivea products. The Mascara took practice. The brush was an odd shape and it would use way to much product. And well tampons are tampons no matter what anyone says.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This box was a dud unfortunately. I didn't like most of the box. The item I didn't receive, the Softlips cube I bought and found I really liked it. it would have tipped my like of this box to the favorable column.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>Disclosure: I received this box from <a href="http://www.influenster.com/" target="_blank">Influenster</a> for free in exchange for my truthful feeling after testing out all the items in the box. </i></div>

Its slimmer and softer than your average toothbrush. I had the opportunity to toss my current brush for the new one and give it a test run.<br />
<br />
I was surprised when my box arrived. Inside were a full size Colgate Slim soft brush, a travel Colgate toothpaste and travel mouthwash.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The contents of my Influenster voxbox</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
My old toothbrush was also a Colgate. In a quick scan of the ones i still have since i usually buy my toothbrushes in bulk they are all either Colgate or Oral-B. I had just moved back to manual brushes at the beginning of the year. My current brush was only a month old but no reason why i couldn't switch it out.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LU1lCLSL3Yk/UmsqnT9TXqI/AAAAAAAACe4/RGfj4cBmNbg/s1600/2013-10-11+14.42.53.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LU1lCLSL3Yk/UmsqnT9TXqI/AAAAAAAACe4/RGfj4cBmNbg/s320/2013-10-11+14.42.53.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Slimsoft on the left my old brush on the right</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
After using it for a week, i unfortunately am not happy. The good its extra soft and i love that about it. I prefer it and even some soft brushes are not soft enough to me. The downside was the slim profile. It felt like it took twice as long to fully clean my mouth. Because the brush head is so much slimmer i felt like i was usual a kid's brush. While the toothpaste and mouthwash were perks, i liked them both enough to switch from my usual brands.<br />
<br />
I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. All opinions are my own.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Being a parent in general isn't a
cake-walk. Being the parent to a child with autism feels some days
like climbing out of a pit when they keep throwing dirt at you.
Regardless parents usually fall into the trap of not taking time out
for themselves. We may make excuses, I can't afford it, we don't have
the time, the energy, anyone to watch our high needs children or we
may have fallen into the mommy martyr trap. The problem with making
these excuses is it speeds up issues within ourselves. We get rundown
from exhausting of having to be always ON. We may get resentful of
others who do get breaks or our partners or family. We may retreat
from other friendships and then wonder where they went after the
umpteenth invitation decline. When do we get to recharge?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Last week I attended the <a href="http://if-mama-aint-happy.com/" target="_blank">Happy MamaConference and Retreat</a>. Its a retreat for mothers of children with
disabilities. What??? Can you believe it? An event just for women who
have walked in your shoes. Everyone there has the same life. The may
be single or married, from various cities and backgrounds, they may
stay at home or hold down full time jobs but they have 1 or more
children diagnosed with a disability. Autism, ADHD, Downs Syndrome,
Visually impaired, Intellectual disabilities etc. You name it and it
was represented. When I first heard about it I started putting money
aside to afford this trip. The price wasn't too much, there was a
payment plan, and bonus for me it was local so I didn't have to pay
for the hotel stay.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Friday I headed over to The <a href="http://embassysuites3.hilton.com/en/hotels/north-carolina/embassy-suites-raleigh-durham-airport-brier-creek-RDUACES/index.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">EmbassySuites Brier Creek</a> for the opening reception and happy hour. When I
arrived the lobby was full of people from 3 different on-site events.
I grabbed my tag and mingled with several people who were also
attending. The main thing I noticed while meeting people was this
look of relief, like they were taking a breath for the first time in
ages. I had dinner with a group I had just met an hour earlier. We
chatted and laughed that night. The next morning were the start of
conference activities. After check in and a huge welcome from
Adrienne we did some group activities to 1-wake everyone up (I heard
the beds in the hotel were amazing) and 2- get us to meet others who
had children with the same disability. We then went into the agenda
for the day. Topics ranged from Self-care for us moms to Student
advocacy for our children lead by an actual special education
attorney. There were also breakout discussions both days on various
topics that each mom was allowed to attend 1 per day. Those ranged
from Local Support Groups to newly diagnosed and the teen years.
There was a free relaxation yoga class after the days events and
anyone who had prearranged spa treatments had a nice block of time to
get those in. I headed back home to take a nap in my nice quiet house
then swung back for the dinner. Dinner tonight was provided and gave
another opportunity to meet with others and chat. Afterward groups
veered off while some stayed around just chatting either in the main
room or at the bar.

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Sunday morning brought another day of
activities. Breakfast was provided for hotel guests, followed by lite
snacks and drinks for everyone else. With a few more speakers and the
2nd set of breakout sessions you could see that the women
surrounding me were unwinding. The session about finding ways to
afford self-care really seemed to resonate with the group. After the
last of the door prizes were given and the books were sold, everyone
started to head home back to reality.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />

<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I am very active in my local special
needs community. I even saw a few people who I knew from other
circles but I still saw the value in this retreat. Moms came from as
far at Canada. Many had no idea some of the services others are have
used. Respite was mentioned a lot, school issues, local resources, we
all had something to learn. I talked with a mom who has gotten her
child into college, something that I still see in front of me and I’m
lost thinking about. I talked to a few about middle school which is
behind me and an area I feel you need tons of moral support. There
was one common thread, we are no in this struggle alone and someone
is there to listen to you with no judgment. We also aren't afraid to
say what went easy and what was hard. We connected. And isn't that
what we all want out of this world to connect with others who
understand? I definitely got my money's worth and I’m glad I put
the effort into attending. I decided I was worth this trip and you
know what? If you've walked this road you are worth it too. </div>

<div style="text-align: right;">
</div>
If you've ever met me you know i wear flip-flops, open toe shoes and sandals or walk around barefoot as much as humanly possible. Because of this my toes are always polished. I like polishing my toenails and i like to use vibrant, funky colors. I almost never paint my fingernails because they chip without days, sometimes hours. I made the mistake of getting a manicure for a close friend's wedding 2 days before the wedding, half my fingernails were chips or peeling by the afternoon of the wedding. I know that i am hard on my nail and so thats why i just don't paint them. Always bare rarely even have clear on.<br />
<br />
When i came across <a href="http://www.julep.com/" target="_blank">Julep</a>, i was pulled in my the colors. My toenails are currently aqua and were previously neon yellow. I figured i'd sign up at the very least to get some cool colors to put on my toenails. I took the Julep Maven quiz and got the result Classic with a Twist. Think Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Lean Lorne. While i love those classy looks i never keep my polish that tame. Turns out you after locked into it. I looked at the other introduction boxed and decided i was more intrigued by the Bombshell box.<br />
<br />
The bombshell intro box came with 2 polishes and a full size mascara. Each box comes with free sample and in this case i got a foot scrub sample. The colors were lovely but we really roped me in was the staying power. it took a full days before i saw any chips without a single touch up.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While at TypeA Conference last year Fadra talked to the representatives, went to the talk they presented, and then wrote a blog post to spread their message. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>When did you become a Champion?</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fadra applied sometime in December of last year and then was selected and attended the summit in Washington DC in January. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since becoming a champion what have you done to promote the cause?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Fadra writes for the Johnson & Johnson <a href="http://www.jnjparents.com/content/moms-take-washington-dc" target="_blank">Parents blog</a>. She campaigned and has become a featured contributor on the Shot@Life subject. She pointed out to me that not all Shot@Life champions are bloggers. They range from Doctors, Nurses Director's of nonprofits and others from all backgrounds. Each plays up their individual strengths to promote the cause. This year The Global Mom Relay is donating $5 between now and May 6th for each shared post, via facebook, twitter or email. the money is being donated by Johnson & Johnson and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Fadra also shared with me that the push to eliminate Polio has come so far and we are down to 3 countries where its still prevalent. The fight continues. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm very proud of Fadra and so happy about how she's spreading the word of Shot@Life. She's a true champion.</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I’ve talked with many parents with children on the spectrum who are older than C1. they all agree learning to drive is another life skill that is harder for them than most and should be filed as one of those “milestone” markers we’ve long since learned to disregard. I still did my due diligence of reading the handbook or driver’s Ed and getting an insurance quote so i would know what needed to happen when she finally brought up the subject. </span></div>

This wasn’t unprompted, we has decided she could try this summer. We’ve talked about it but i know that there’s an equal chance of her failing. I’ve taken her on one driving lesson in an empty parking lot. My knuckles were an awesome shade or white that afternoon. I also know that the road from Learner’s permit to license is longer for children on the spectrum. Some say this is great because you have more practice and breathing room, but even constant practice can agitate the most patient people. I’ve tried to mentally prepare myself if she fails, 1, twice 6 times as a fellow parent of a child with ASD has experienced. I’ve tried to acknowledge private practice driving may go hours and hours beyond the state required amount. I’ve accepted that in a little for 2 years when she’ turns 18 she might still not have a driver’s license. This is my reality. It doesn’t make it easier, just more shaky. </span></b><br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kz0Tfk-GmeA/UVsS60IBhMI/AAAAAAAAB8s/B2Ma8krBJeA/s1600/worldautismawarenessday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kz0Tfk-GmeA/UVsS60IBhMI/AAAAAAAAB8s/B2Ma8krBJeA/s1600/worldautismawarenessday.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Today is World Autism Day. People all over are wearing blue, have switched out their porch lights to blue bulbs all the bring to awareness of Autism which affects 1 in 88 children in the US. Those numbers are staggering and those children will grow up. Their impact on society is felt in more ways then you can imagine.<br />
<br />
For some of these children, they will never leave home, their parents will be their caregivers forever. There's no college, jobs and grandchildren in their future. For others they may move out only to be placed in group homes hoping to find a place in this world. For others they will go to college, or start working once school services end. They may be successful they may struggle constantly to stay employed. The one thing they all have in common - an Autism diagnosis. Its a bell curve and everyone sits in a different spot. But why aren't there options for many of these children when they age?<br />
<br />
Everywhere you look today you will see early intervention, better diagnosis, services that should be provided the ABC word salad of <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individualized_Education_Program" rel="wikipedia nofollow" target="_blank" title="Individualized Education Program">IEP</a>, ABA, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Appropriate_Public_Education" rel="wikipedia nofollow" target="_blank" title="Free Appropriate Public Education">FAPE</a>, OT, SST etc. parents with children on the spectrum know these terms. We also know how hard it is for some services. But what scares me everyday is how services dwindle as your child ages. Where are these options?<br />
<br />
I still remember sitting in the doctor's office when C1 was 11. we were discussing the likelihood she would transition into a group home whens he finished high school. She was 11. If you have a child younger than that can you imagine having that conversation? If you have an older child have you had that conversation? My head was swimming that day. Her forward progress and years of early intervention had come to a grinding halt. How do you prepare? what do you do? even worse who do you reach out to when you are referred to a support group and your child is the oldest by 5 years?<br />
<br />
C1 is 15 now. The conversations with doctors are different now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQnTNi-x4Hw/UVsWOyXiy9I/AAAAAAAAB88/q-AKnJidDUg/s1600/c1atcomputer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="C1 at the computer" border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQnTNi-x4Hw/UVsWOyXiy9I/AAAAAAAAB88/q-AKnJidDUg/s320/c1atcomputer.jpg" title="C1 at the computer" width="290" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">C1 last summer</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I never gave up and in many way invented my own ways of helping her. Necessity is the mother of invention afterall. I am still hyper aware of the complete lack of services that exist for people her age, How a typical sexual education conversation is never going to be easy, no matter how many times i've had this conversation with her. How even though she is considered high-functioning and will most likely attend a local college, where's the job training for a girl who bristle when anyone including her own mother touches her?<br />
<br />
We need to move from awareness to action. because these children grow up. The adults on the spectrum even those diagnosed as adults have grown up without a net. The parents of the younger need to talk to the older, learn from those who walked this path already. I spend more time searching out diagnosed adults than a little bit, I need their guidance, we all need your guidance. We can't do this alone and we are not alone in this fight. Light it up blue and take action.<br />

Not so fast<span style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.984375px;">Lately lots of parents have been up in arms over the new <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.victoriassecret.com/" rel="homepage nofollow" target="_blank" title="Victoria's Secret">Victoria's Secret</a> campaign slogan "Bright Young Things" it seems many have taken this to be advertising towards middle school girls and the tween crowd despite the ads like this which feature women who don't remotely resemble a 11 year old girl. So what gives?</span><br />

He's a reverend so his faith plays into this but a better question is are their any items from Vickie's in his daughter's room? The slogan features adult women. The line it's promoting is the long standing PINK line which while its meant to be worn by the college crowd as its more fun than sexy, it's a very bad kept secret that teenagers are frequently in the PINK bins buying said items. So who's at fault here? Is your 11 year old clamoring for these panties? If so and you buy them did somebody twist your arm? If you didn't no harm no foul. Before you get upset about the idea that a slogan which doesn't feature Tweens in the ads as a problem, ask yourself if they are really talking to your child. As I write this an ad for Victoria's Secret is on TV. It's after 9pm. It's not 2pm and I'm not watching Nickelodeon. </span></span></div>

C1 is 15 and doesn't own anything from Victoria's Secret. I know I check. I haven't been able to wear a bra from Vickie's since I was her age because they don't carry large cup sizes. While I can rant for days about the untrained saleswomen who will tell you you fit a bra they sell just because you wear under a 40 band even though you know the cups stop at D are besides the point. I clearly don't love this store but I still shop there and you can't escape the advertising at the front of the store. We pass it every time we are at the mall, all the pink screams at you. </div>

This sale couldn't come at a better time since we are low on some labels. The sale covers the top five types of tags they sell, Tagmates, Shoe labels, Sticky Labels, Skinny Minis and Preschool Shoe Labels. We have lots of Mabel's Labels items in our house. C1 uses the shoe labels on items that are better covered with circular items, I use the bag tags on my luggage, and the Sticky labels on my electronics. There's a sticky label on the back of my iPhone case.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Last year I experienced something that
my stomach will never forget and does a little dance every time i
think about it, the <a href="http://www.durhamcentralpark.org/events/food-truck-rodeo/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Durham Food Truck Rodeo</a>. A few weeks ago on a
windy but sunny day, it was time for another rodeo and there was no
way i was missing it. I dropped C1 off at Pokemon League early and
drove over to Durham Central Park to be surrounded by the many food trucks which I’ve never
seen or tasted before. </div>
<h2>
What's a food truck rodeo?</h2>
Its when many food trucks - in this case 38 park in a designated area so you can partake of the various offerings at your leisure. The Triangle is its own weird little place when it comes to food trucks. Durham and Chapel Hill are far more food truck friendly than Raleigh. The benefit of me living close to Durham means if I really want to eat from a certain truck they are frequently not far away. Usually when a truck is allowed to park in Raleigh its downtown where I almost never go or I get lucky and its parked in the lot of a business.<br />

The crowds are always large for these events. I went in with the plan to get some of my favorites from <a href="http://americanmeltdown.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">American Meltdown</a> and <a href="http://www.chirbachirba.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Chirba Chirba</a> (who happened to be parked next to each other) but the lines for both were close to 30 minute waits. Since I can get food from either of these trucks at other times I decided to change it up and try food from only trucks I’ve never eaten off of before.<br />

After doing a full walk-around to see which trucks where there and check the line speed, I decided to try <a href="http://www.parlezvouscrepe.com/events.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Parlez-Vous Crepe</a>. I got the Nutella and Strawberries crepe which. The line was longish but the crepes were coming out of the truck pretty fast. They sell both sweet and savory crepes. What I wasn't prepared for was how large it was. This was a very tasty crepe. After eating about halfway thru it I headed over to find another truck to order from. </div>

<div class="">
My next stop was <a href="http://www.sargeschef.com/gourmetchef/default.htm" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sarge's Chef on Wheel</a>s. I don't think I’d ever seen this truck before but the line was non-existent. Sarge's serves a menu that mixes Southern, Asian and Caribbean cooking. I decided on the Crab Quiche. One bite and I was over the moon. This is easily the best thing I’ve eaten so far in 2013. I have yet to taste anything as good as this. </div>

While eating my quiche I wandered over to <a href="http://baguettaboutit.com/menu/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Baguettaboutit</a>. I've seen this truck many times but never managed to get a sandwich. I tried The Imposter a Sun Dried Tomato & Basil Tofurky Italian Sausage w/ Cracked Pepper and Parmesan Sauce. It was my least favorite item of the day. It just wasn't to my liking. The dog was spicy and the parm sauce was tasty but the combo just didn't work for me. The truck is pretty popular so I would still suggest you try some of their other options.<br />

I checked my clock and realized it was time to go pick up C1 so I only had enough time for 1 or 2 more trucks. I headed over to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blue-Ribbon-Delights-Custom-Cakes-in-Raleigh-Durham/181635128536474" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Blue Ribbon Delights</a>. They sell custom cakes, pastries and other desserts. I grabbed some red velvet cupcakes for C1 and got myself the chocolate dipped strawberries for later.<br />

<br />
Not at the rodeo but parked in its usually spot within walking distance I headed over to the <a href="https://twitter.com/KoKyuBBQ" target="_blank">Kokyu BBQ</a> truck. They stay parked most days it seems in front of MotorCo Music Hall. I had to get me the Duckfat tater tots. I don't even like tater tots but these are so amazing. Again with the great portion sizes.<br />

Four years ago When President Obama was sworn into office, it was a snow day here in NC. The schools were closed, there's a nice amount of snow on the ground and I was up early working from home on Swedish time so I could communicate with people in the home office. Around the time the festivities started I called C1 into my room she climbed into my bed to watch the inauguration with me. It was a historical event and I noticed she was sleep some time while Aretha Franklin was singing. I think she was drawn into the fact that I never let her sleep in my bed and my room was nice and toasty!<br />

<br />
<br />
This week the inauguration fell on Martin Luther King Jr day so she was home again. The night before we spent talking about many of Dr. King's accomplishments, I told her some of the stories my grandmother used to tell me when I was younger about when she marched with him and how well she knew his wife Coretta.<br />

One inauguration day, I got up and tuned in. my how things change! I checked in on Get Glue, I checked what was happening on twitter and facebook from my iPad and I didn't have to wake C1 up, she had just finished her breakfast when I invited her watch with me again this year. This year she sat near the foot of my bed, and asked many questions. We remarked on how much Sasha and Malia had grown. She asked if Sasha was taller than she was (she is) she asked questions about our government processes, who some of the performers were, we talked about simple things too like the hats people in the crowd were wearing. It was a moment that I’m glad we got to share together. I'm keenly aware that in this digital age doing things as a family is so rare and when historic events happen its a once in a lifetime event and its a memory you want to share with your family. Spending time together as a family is about creating memories and stories to pass along and that's the important part.<br />

I handed the box over to C1 and asked for her opinion 3 days later. But not before I stole the gum. She doesn't like gum.<br />
The gum was a berry flavor. While I didn't care fro the flavor it didn't stick to my dentalwork and the flavor lasted while I ran a few errands. There's also a coupon to buy more so i will probably go try the other flavors. The C1 doesn't wear makeup yet but i let her try the MaryKay lip gloss anyway. The color was not good on her skin. I tried it myself and it also wasn't a good match.<br />
<br />
The item she was most excited about when she opened the box? The Shick razor.<br />
The item she ended up loving the most. The Vitamin E.<br />
<br />
She started rubbing it into her cuticles and her hands look much better in a short amount of time. She was amazed by it of all things. She's started putting it on her elbows and knees.<br />
<br />
The <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.pantene.com/" rel="homepage" target="_blank" title="Pantene">Pantene</a> Moisture Whip we were both indifferent. It works fine but we couldn't see a reason we would need to buy a full size. Its meant to erase the damage of constant blow drying something neither of us do. I noticed more of a change in my hair then she did but its subtle so i need to keep using it for my final decisions.<br />
<br />
For my first Cravebox i consider this a good box. As I mentioned before Cravebox is free to join. you can enter a drawing for a box and if you are selected you aren't charged for the box. The price is always listed up-front and you'll never be charged for a box you didn't apply for.<br />

I took a hiatus from here over the holidays to spend some time thinking about something I've considered for a few months now. I know that many of you read my blog strictly for the <a href="http://www.jeansandtshirt.com/search/label/movie%20reviews">movie reviews</a> and i am glad you all find it worth your time. I also know there are many long time readers who remember when i used to show off my T-Shirt collection and just talk about life. I find myself more and more writing about the things going on and my struggles with <a href="http://www.jeansandtshirt.com/2012/05/memories-of-touch.html">my grief</a> and not posting them because they feel out of place.<br />
<br />
I've come to the conclusion that i needed to spin off my site into 2 parts. The new site is still under construction and will be live in the coming days but it means all my entertainment related posts will leave this location and move to the new one. It also means this site will go back to being more personal as it was in previous years. Hopefully you will stick around both parts but if you don't I understand i will still strive to bring you great content in both locations.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QG6VYZcNwu8/UKVqX-LtuGI/AAAAAAAABkI/5tG9RQHYuhE/s1600/lincoln_poster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QG6VYZcNwu8/UKVqX-LtuGI/AAAAAAAABkI/5tG9RQHYuhE/s320/lincoln_poster.jpg" width="215" /></a></div>
<br />
The 16th President of our nation. The backdrop of the Civil War. Lincoln exams the last 6 months of Lincoln's life as he tries to get the 13th Amendment passed. Steven Speilberg attempts to take us on this thought provoking journey into the Mind of Lincoln, during a time with the nation in such turmoil. While Spielberg is known for his grand movies something about this movie doesn't sit well.<br />
<br />
<a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Day-Lewis" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Daniel Day-Lewis">Daniel Day-Lewis</a> stars at Lincoln and i must say the costumes and makeup are amazing here. I had to do a little wiki looking because Mary Todd is played by <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/sally_field" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Sally Field">Sally Field</a>. While she is absolutely bringing it in her role i didn't think she was that old. In the stunt casting we have <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/joseph_gordonlevitt" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Joseph Gordon-Levitt">Joseph Gordon-Levitt</a> as Robert Lincoln, the eldest son. <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000169/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Tommy Lee Jones">Tommy Lee Jones</a> also stars as Thaddeus Stevens. the Republican Congressional leader, highly feared by many and an abolitionist. He also were's a terrible on purpose wig.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_fw9nB4eKqY/UKV2MxfCi-I/AAAAAAAABko/Rpjv4UetdAI/s1600/lincoln-TLJ.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="143" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_fw9nB4eKqY/UKV2MxfCi-I/AAAAAAAABko/Rpjv4UetdAI/s320/lincoln-TLJ.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Epic bad wig.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
The majority of the movie you see how Abraham and Mary fight, she feels she trapped him because she's a little unstable, history tells us she was institutionalized after his death. He has a great relationship with his son Tad, and he has a great deal of that common man feel. He may be present but he treats everyone else like they are on equal planes with him. Lincoln spends a lot of time at odds with his Secretary of State Seward (David Strathairn) since its becoming very clear that the war is going to end soon and if passing the amendment isn't needed or can derail the ending of the war.<br />
<br />
This movie tries to do too much. It looks great absolutely great and the scenes of congress fighting as they debate the war are pretty good but the hidden gem and the highlight for me was Bilboe.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lMWSxb3QBQQ/UKV17FfWP_I/AAAAAAAABkg/PlEodNE4agw/s1600/bilbo-lincoln.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lMWSxb3QBQQ/UKV17FfWP_I/AAAAAAAABkg/PlEodNE4agw/s320/bilbo-lincoln.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This guy owns. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
All of his scenes were gold. <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Spader" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="James Spader">James Spader</a> totally owned it in this movie and it was the saving grace. I found myself yawning for too much in the also 3 hours. Its a drama but is it gripping? Well maybe for about 90 minutes.<br />
<br />
I give this movie a Redbox. There's a limit to how long i can sit in a film and stay drawn it. So many movies are nearing that 3 hour mark and i can't for the life of me understand why. it works in some films and doesn't it others. The could have completely cut every single scene JGL was in and nobody would have noticed. This movie was about Abraham, Mary, Thaddeus and Bilboe.<br />
<br />
Lincoln is rated PG-13.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5uJZ1cyhBUI/UJyf6QC6xVI/AAAAAAAABjg/e-YSW3DlqkY/s1600/skyfall-poster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5uJZ1cyhBUI/UJyf6QC6xVI/AAAAAAAABjg/e-YSW3DlqkY/s320/skyfall-poster.jpg" width="215" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm a huge James Bond fan. So much that one of my earliest online identities way back in the 90's was NextBondGirl. I begged my OB to let me off bedrest so i could see Tomorrow Never Dies on opening day. yes i'm THAT kind of fan. It took a lot of time for me to warm up to <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/daniel_craig" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Daniel Craig">Daniel Craig</a> and at this point i kinda love him now.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.skyfall-movie.com/site/" target="_blank">Skyfall</a> opens strong and never lets you down. it goes back to vintage Bond, with the usual opening fight and/or escape scene except this time Bond gets shot and is presumed dead. The opening sequence is the kind i've seen back from the Shirley Bassey golden years. A killer theme song by Adele and a montage of blood, drownings, graveyard, naked girls with guns... everything you're supposed to see in a Bond opening sequence. Switch to the not dead James Bond driving with locals and screwing the sexiest girl he can find.<br />
<br />
Skyfall is not really about James, well it is and it's not. The villain here is someone from M's past. Javier Bardem plays Silva, a former operative under M's service many years ago who wants to kill her but first torments and publicly shaming her. His plan was years in the making and he plays this part oh so well. When James becomes aware that M's a target he goes and does what any good son would do and comes back from enjoying his life as a dead man to protect her. There's so many references to James being too old to do what he's doing which admittedly would have been more convincing with <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000125/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Sean Connery">Sean Connery</a> was doing some of the later films especially Diamonds Are Forever. While Bond gets a new Q in this film (Ben Whishaw) a young computer geek with a fear of flying. He and James clearly don't see eye to eye and instead of the gadgets of yesteryear, there's even a reference the the exploding pen in <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113189/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="GoldenEye">GoldenEye</a>. This movie takes you to some visually stunning locations, Shanghai looks great.<br />
<br />
The things this films does right, Bond beds more than 1 woman, the opening and theme, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001132/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Judi Dench">Judi Dench</a> as a stellar m who's worried when she needs to be and callous as expected. She may be a woman but she's hard as rails when they try to force her into retirement, James beds Moneypenny (off-screen), an Ashon Martin complete with ejector seat and guns behind the headlights from a previous film. A villain who's just slimey enough you want him to die but not before you get to enjoy him just a tad longer. The film setup did drag a bit in the film round-up. The movie has a huge climatic ending that takes play in Scotland and it clears up some of the ambiguous details of Bond's private life. We also get a new M before the movie end, in an office that should look familiar to fans.<br />
<br />
I still loved this film and it goes into my Top 5 favorite Bond films ever. The references to the earlier films and the way Craig plays Bond. he's not the smooth slick Bond Pierce Bronsan or Roger Moore gave us, he's much more rugged and it makes him sexier in a different way. I give this movie a full price. I had the pleasure of screening this film in IMAX and while its not shot in IMAX the sound quality and the way it looks on the large screen was totally worth it to me. The rumbling of my seat during the helicopter scenes, the very vivid explosions, I loved it.<br />
<br />
Skyfall is rated PG-13.<br />

<br />
Since I no longer live in NYC i have mixed feelings about indie movies. They are generally some of the best made, most underrated films out there but now that i live in a smaller media market, even getting access to see an indie film without renting it becomes a crapshoot. Weeks after they are open in NY and LA you maybe get a 2-3 week run at a small independently run theater. I'm still very glad i got to see <a href="http://www.thesessionsmovie.com/" target="_blank">The Sessions</a>.<br />
<br />
Mark O'Brien is 30-something year old man who was crippled from the neck down by polio as a child. He managed to live much longer than usually expected, graduated from college and works as a freelance writer. He spends most of his days in an iron lung. Based loosely on a true story, Mark (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0370035/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="John Hawkes (actor)">John Hawkes</a>) ends up writing an article about his time with a sex surrogate. This movie is about him connecting and falling in love with is assistant, his platonic relationship with her replacement Vera (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/1174156-moon_bloodgood" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Moon Bloodgood">Moon Bloodgood</a>) his new found relationship with his priest Father Brendan (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_H._Macy" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="William H. Macy">William H Macy</a>), and his sessions with a sex surrogate Cheryl played by <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000166/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Helen Hunt">Helen Hunt</a>.<br />
<br />
Mark is smart, witty and does not feel bad for himself. His journey to lose his virginity and how he falls in love with his first assistant Amanda who unfortunately doesn't return the feelings. When he goes down the path with Cheryl, you know that he is bound to fall in love with her but the way she begins to care about him and let her into her live startles her and upsets her husband. Helen Hunt is pretty convincing as a deeply caring surrogate who has the level of sensitivity needed but knows she's crossing rules she shouldn't. She does a full frontal in this film which is jarring because you think how badly she needs to gain some weight. Father Brendan and mark have the level of exchanges that keep you laughing till you have tears int eh corners of your eyes. Mark is deeply catholic and after getting the a-ok from his priest to have sex outside of marriage the confessionals and how they give Father Brendan such mixed feelings are killer. I loved their exchanges its was worth everything. Mark tells his recounts of his sessions with his surrogate in such detail to his priest, its hilarious.<br />
<br />
I give this movie a full price. I can't begin to say how much i adored this movie. its touching, well done, funny and even though it ends with Mark's death you know that he had a life worth living and he was content as was everyone he touched. You can't help but smile when its over. John Hawkes gives an amazing performance. Easily one of the best I've seen in any film. I went into this unaware of the article which i ended up reading later (thanks Google!) and reading more about his life. Everything about this movie is so well done.<br />
<br />
The Sessions is rated R.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Q__CWUNroI/UJQOllHHO_I/AAAAAAAABic/bdB-wmgCuEg/s1600/wreckitralph-poster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Q__CWUNroI/UJQOllHHO_I/AAAAAAAABic/bdB-wmgCuEg/s320/wreckitralph-poster.jpg" width="216" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I grew up with video games. I still
remember owning a Colecovision and hours spent in arcades in high
school. My love for video games still exists even though the types of
games I play has changed. <a href="http://disney.go.com/wreck-it-ralph/" target="_blank">Wreck-It Ralph </a>manages to pull in kids with
the story and their parents with the nostalgia of their own
childhoods.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
In the latest from Disney/Pixar we get
the story of Ralph (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/john_c_reilly" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="John C. Reilly">John C. Reilly</a>) the villain in the game Fix-It
Felix Jr. His video game is 30 years old and he feels slighted for
being a bad guy, while Felix is treated wonderfully after the arcade
closes by the other inhabitants of his game. One of the ghosts from
Pac-Man hosts a VA support group for various villains of other games.
Ralph never attended till recently when he started feeling like he
could be more than a bad guy. Everyone says stay the status quo. The
characters all move from game to game after hours, the bar everyone
drinks at is the game Tappers, the Villain support group is into the
ghost home of Pac-Man, its just fine after hours but everyone is
expected to not game jump while the arcade is open because if your
missing or in the wrong place your game could be put out of order and
even worse unplugged. Also if you die outside your game you don't
regenerate.
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Game Central Station</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Ralph wants to be a hero so badly he
game jumps into Hero's Duty, a first person shooter game similar to
Halo. He meets up with Sargent Calhoun (Jane Lynch) then accidentally
gets blasted out of the game with a virus and ends up in the racing
game Sugar Rush where he meets Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah
Silverman) a glitch in her game. She wants to be a racer like
everyone else but she's an outcast because of her glitch. A side
effect is that glitches can never leave their games. If your game
gets unplugged you can leave and end up in Game Central Station which
is where we see Q*bert and his game cohorts as homeless people. The
rest of the movie is about the growing friendship between Ralph and
Vanellope, as well as between Calhoun and Felix Jr (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1442113/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Jack McBrayer">Jack McBrayer</a>) as
they attempt to find Ralph and the rouge virus bug from Hero's Duty.

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
There's some great voice casting in
this film. <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/dennis_haysbert" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Dennis Haysbert">Dennis Haysbert</a>, Ed O'Neill, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0566052/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Edie McClurg">Edie McClurg</a>, Adam Tudyk and <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004805/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Adam Carolla">Adam
Corolla</a> are all in this. The games you love from being a kid, Sonic,
Ryu from Street Fighter, Bowser, and the universal contra cheat is in
this movie. There's even a Cola and Mentos mountain. I laughed
hysterically throughout this movie and there were clearly game
references that only the over 30 crowd would get. C1 thoroughly
enjoyed it as well. There were several moments during the movie where
she was gasping because she was shocked at the turn of events. Thanks
to Super Smash Brothers she recognized several characters but asked
me questions about others after the movie was over.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I give this movie a Full Price but pass on the 3-D. Pixar
knows how to appeal to the kids and the parents who have to bring
them along and they deliver as usual here. C1 gave this movie a
“purchase” which on her scale means amazing and we need to own it
too.</div>

The Pixar short before the film is
Paperman which I saw previously before watching <a href="http://www.jeansandtshirt.com/2012/08/movie-review-odd-life-of-timothy-green.html" target="_blank">The Odd Life ofTimothy Green</a>. Its still a cute short and I enjoyed it just as much

Everything seems OK when they get to smooth sails but a mechanical failure causes the plane to drop out of the sky. Within the first 20 minutes we get the insane view of the plane flying upside down, the panicked co-pilot and flight attendants, as well as bodies tossed around when people don't listen to the fasten seatbelt sign and a brace order. Elsewhere Nicole (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0717709/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Kelly Reilly">Kelly Reilly</a>) drug addict decides she wants to end her life by overdosing. <a href="http://www.paramount.com/flight/" target="_blank">Flight</a> is clearly about more than this epic plane crash. </span></span></div>

We see him bargaining, fall out drunk, fighting... he runs the gambit in this film. If Denzel doesn't get the Oscar nom here I'd be surprised. Whip is so flawed and unapologetic about it that its spot on. While those around him want him to quit he's not there yet and the movie becomes more about how it rips at the people in his life. Every attempt at sobriety on his own fails. He's not ready to quit until he's backed in a corner but his longtime friend and Union Rep Charlie (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0339304/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Bruce Greenwood">Bruce Greenwood</a>) and has to stay sober before his big hearing about the plane crash. </span></span></div>

While the plane crash pulls you in this movie is definitely a trigger for families who have had to deal with alcoholism and drug addiction. Thats really my only word of caution since the subject matter might hit home really hard. The people around him all know he's an alcoholic. He's the only one in denial and we see it through that lense. The movie also stars <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000422/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="John Goodman">John Goodman</a> as Whip's best friend Harling. He's a hippie drug dealer and steals his scenes. <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000332/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Don Cheadle">Don Cheadle</a> also stars as the attorney hired by the union to represent Whip. There's just so much about this movie I loved. The characters, the intensely flawed, bottom of the barrel scraping Whip and that there is no Hollywood glamorized story in here. When Whip's new girlfriend Nicole ties to sober him up as she kicks heroin she fails. Even though he's a hero his ex wife and son still hate him. It did get a little preachy there in the middle where everyone started saying everything that has happened from the plane crash to Whip's life was because of god but in the end no neat happy ending. They could have played this 2 ways and I would have been happy with either. </span></span></div>

<a href="http://cloudatlas.warnerbros.com/" target="_blank">Cloud Atlas</a> isn't just one big movie,
its the intertwining of multiple smaller films to make one big movie.
The premise behind it that everyone is connected is the thread to tie
the various films together.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
The various stories take place in the
past, present and future, While you may notice the subtle details
like the comet tattoo that appears on <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/halle_berry" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Halle Berry">Halle Berry</a>'s shoulder in 1973
and <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/tom_hanks" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Tom Hanks">Tom Hanks</a> head in the far distance future. But there's other
things that are not so noticeable on the first passing. You get so
caught up in trying to spot the actor under all the makeup that is
sometimes pulls you out of the film and the story. The stories in
chronological order include, a transoceanic voyage in 1849, this
involves a doctor with murderous intent, while a lawyer Adam Ewing
(<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0836343/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Jim Sturgess">Jim Sturgess</a>) who decides to show kindness to a escaped slave (David

returned in that lifetime but it ripples forward. The next takes
place in Cambridge in the 1930s where a poor composer Robert
Frobisher (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0924210/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Ben Whishaw">Ben Whishaw</a>) and his rich gay lover Rufus Sixsmith tell
their story in letters as the composer goes to work for Vyvan Arys
and pens the Cloud Atlas sextet. This story flows directly into 1973
due to Sixsmith still being alive when he happens upon a reporter
Luisa Rey (Halle Berry) who is covering a story about a Nuclear plant
and a huge coverup. Move forward to 2012 and you have the story of a
book publisher Timothy Cavendish (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000980/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Jim Broadbent">Jim Broadbent</a>) who gets a nice
payday when one of his authors decides to toss the critic who hated
his book off the balcony pushing sales thru the roof. When he is
unexpectedly institutionalized by his richer brother his escape plan
has some of the funnier moments as well as <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/hugo_weaving" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Hugo Weaving">Hugo Weaving</a> as the scary
blonde female Nurse Noakes who runs the place. The next is in 2144, a
place called New Seoul as Old Seoul is mostly underwater. A clone
Sonmi-451 (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0046277/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Bae Doona">Doona Bae</a>) escapes with a first officer of the revolution
after her “boss” is found dead, She realizes all the ills of the
world and what horrors are actually happening then before she is
caught and executed by the government broadcasts a manifesto to the
world which causes far more than a ripple. Spoiler alert- <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: white;">Soylent Green is people</span></span> <i>Highlight to read</i>. The last story takes place
102 years after “The Fall” there are people who live on earth who
dwell somewhat like cavemen while staying away from the Cannibals,
<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000424/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Hugh Grant">Hugh Grant</a> plays the head cannibal, while other more evolved people
live on other planets.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
This is a lot of movie to take in and
that’s partially where it fails. I found myself far more invested
in the Composer, the Publisher and the Clone's stories and didn't
care enough about the others. I would have probably paid money for
the Clone's stand-alone story as it was the one that was so gripping
and I cared what happened, I was less pulled out of the story by the
other characters in different costumes and more taken with the story
itself. This film tries to do too much. That doesn't make it bad but
too much of something is not always a good thing. The ideas are grand
and while you may think this is an actor's dream you realize not
everyone is that versatile. Its someone painful to see some of the
actors in different places because not only can you point them out
they feel out of place to you. Even so this movie deserves all the
makeup and costume awards it can get. Its a visually stunning movie
but its still long and overly complicated. Cloud Atlas is a monster
of a film at 164 minutes. That being said the movie never really
slows down. Just when you think that a story is going to get dull it
switches in time to another storyline to continue that forward
progression. Its a movie where you have to stop and pay attention to
details because you just might miss something. There is definitely an
all star cast here with all the main playing anywhere from 3-6
different people in each of the story-lines. Ambitious is probably a
good word here.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I give this movie a matinee. Its well
worth the price of admission you are definitely getting a bang for
your buck here with 3 hours of 6 different stories but its overly
done is some ways. I hate to think what the hell they cut out of
this. It doesn't lag anywhere but even some of the best dramas have
some down time for your brain to process. This keeps going and jumps
back and forth.

<br />
The Disney Tinkerbell franchise has a new film out. C1 and I got a chance to screen the new film <a href="http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/secret-of-the-wings.html" target="_blank">Secret of the Wings</a> a while back. I personally have not seen any of the movies in the franchise so i needed her opinion so i could figure out exactly what was going on.<br />
<br />
The story is takes place as the fairies are getting ready for Winter. Where Tinkerbell (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0926165/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Mae Whitman">Mae Whitman</a>) and her friends are this means getting the animals to cross the bridge for winter and preparing baskets to be delivered to the Winter fairies. Tinkerbell in her naturally inquisitive self wants to cross over the bridge to experience it. this is strictly forbidden but the other fairies don't even consider it as an option because of the fear they would freeze. Tinkerbell always the headstrong fairy not only steps over she finds her wings do something odd and thats her cue to figure out what is on the other side and to find the winter fairies. Enter Periwinkle.<br />
<br />

</tbody></table>
Tinkerbell discoveries she has a sister named Periwinkle. Periwinkle goes and talks to the Keeper of all books Dewey and when Tink shows up at Dewey's place he explains to both girls their origin story. Peri takes Tink to meet her friends who similar to Tink's friends have personalities that are outwardly easily identifiable I really liked Slush. The sisters aren't supposed to be together due to a old rule set forth by queen Clarion (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001378/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Anjelica Huston">Anjelica Huston</a>) and enforced by Lord Malori (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/timothy_dalton" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Timothy Dalton">Timothy Dalton</a>) on the Winter side.<br />
<br />
As the race to save the Pixie Hollow tree the fairies learn not only why the rules were put in place but how they aren't necessarily beneficial at all. This movie gives a good idea of the Winter fairies who according to C1 were barely in the previous films so it was nice to see them and what they are about.<br />
<br />
As a parent this movie was short quick and i didn't get bored or doze off. C1 rated it a 3/4 Stars which to her merits a watchability of around a dozen times. The movie is available on DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack today.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
The Alex Cross franchise has gotten a
reboot with a younger actor. But really who can take the place oF
God? When Idris Elba stepped out of this literally at the last
possible minute we get <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1347153/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Tyler Perry">Tyler Perry</a> who is not remotely known for
anything of substance. I guess this is his "serious acting” role.
Yeah OK.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I’m going to get the main thing out of the way I've never read the <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.jamespatterson.com/" rel="homepage" target="_blank" title="James Patterson">James Patterson</a> books, although the kid has read some of his newer juvenile fiction books. The story here is that we have the earlier Alex Cross, hence using someone many decades younger than <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/morgan_freeman" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Morgan Freeman">Morgan Freeman</a>. Cross is looking for a serial killer? No wait he's an assassin? An MMA fighter? <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0289142/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Matthew Fox">Matthew Fox</a> who's insanely slimmed down plays a hired assassin “The Butcher” with the crazy eyes. He's like the guys on Criminal Minds but he looks like they do after they start de-evolving. He likes to torture people. Shoots them up with a paralyzing drug that makes them completely immobile but fully aware of what they are going thru and feeling. He's sick, twisted and likes to draw things while in his manic moments. I actually had high hopes for Fox here but they should have dialed down the crazy if they wanted to make him a believable hired contract killer or ramped up the crazy and have him be a straight serial killer. This inbetween is so bizarre. He does look pretty impressive though when he's all crazy eyes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is his serious thinking face. </td></tr>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Perry's performance on the other hand
is wooden at best. His facial expressions fail to match his tone, he hasn't dropped nearly enough weight for this role and
when he monologues its just bad. I couldn't be convinced if you paid
me. The worse thing is, I can't even blame the failings of this movie
on him. The script is BAD. There's <i>very little</i> saving this movie. You
know the only good thing in this whole entire movie? This guy.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
There's lots of people in this that
feel like they are mailing it in. Jean Reno as the french tycoon Leno
who's revitalizing Detroit and next on the assassin’s list. He
mailed it in and picked up a sandwich on his way out. <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001807/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Cicely Tyson">Cicely Tyson</a> as
Nana Mama. Really? Did we have to go there? Is this in the books? I
think I’m supposed to be offended. I have no idea. Just when I’m
ready to pack it in <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002064/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Giancarlo Esposito">Giancarlo Esposito</a> shows up for three reasons:<br />
<br />
1-
to justify the insane plot device they just made up where Alex and
Tommy go all rogue to steal evidence and become hackers<br />
2- to give
even more product placement to Cadillac<br />
3- to keep him in the
running for hardest working man of 2012 since Samuel L. Jackson seems
to be taking a vacation.<br />
<br />
All it makes me think was that he could have
probably been a better choice of Alex Cross but that wouldn't have
saved this movie with a script this sketchy. And the big fight scene
with Alex and the Butcher? What the hell happened, was the cameraman
drunk? What is on Rob Cohen's mind here? Shaky cam is not always a plus. Every time you think you
might have something redeeming in this film it lets you down again,
Alex's wife can't even die well.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
This is not the worse thing I've seen
this year, and the fact that I need to point that out is pretty sad. I'm still not a Tyler Perry fan and he clearly is not ready for
dramatic anything. They need to seriously rethink recasting this for
the sequel and getting a better screenwriter while they are at it. <br />
<br />
I give this movie a wait for cable. You will be disappointed if you pay for this. Alex cross is rated PG-13.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
A drunken screenwriter, a shady old man, a loose cannon friend and the dog of a local crime boss. No matter what the posters tell you <a href="http://www.sevenpsychopaths.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Seven Psychopaths</a> is a story about Marty (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/colin_farrell" rel="rottentomatoes" target="_blank" title="Colin Farrell">Colin Farrell</a>) the drunken Irish writer who's attempting to complete his script 7 Psychopaths. Except he has nothing to work with and he's usually drunk. His best friend Billy (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005377/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Sam Rockwell">Sam Rockwell</a>) really wants to help him write it. Billy spends his time with Hans (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.last.fm/music/Christopher%2BWalken" rel="lastfm" target="_blank" title="Christopher Walken">Christopher Walken</a>) They run a stolen dog racket, Billy steals the dog and Hans returns returns it for the reward money. All is well and good till Billy steals the beloved dog of Charlie (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000437/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Woody Harrelson">Woody Harrelson</a>) the gangster. Charlie is straight up crazy and Billy was fully aware when he stole the dog who it belonged to. Of course Hans doesn't and to make matters worse, Marty gets caught with the dog. Charlie is so crazy he goes all street justice on the dog walker who lost it. Charlie loves his shih-tzu more than anything else. The dog's collar says “Return to Charlie or you fucking die”<br />
<br />
Now don't forget Marty’s still got a story to write and Billy places an ad in the paper calling for people who are Psychopaths to give their story. This is how we get Zachariah (<a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001823/" rel="imdb" target="_blank" title="Tom Waits">Tom Waits</a>) who carries a bunny and answers the ad. Zack's story is hilarious and so twisted it hurts as you alternate between cringing and crying tears of hysterical laughter. Zack's a special kind of psychopath. At this point they are numbered as they are revealed during the movie. Marty billy and Hans spend the majority of time together. As the movie progresses the 3 of them are working on the screenplay together as they are hiding out from Charlie. The 3 of them together is hysterical. They manage to finish the story and there's a screen where Billy gives his version of how the film should end which opens up for an insane amount of Walken brand of badass like he was in a Tarantino film.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The movie has a good wrap it up ending. Its not a happy one but its a good one to me. This movie is dark and twisted and is a special brand of humor. Don't go because you like Farrell or Walken, go because you like dark comedies similar to Weeds, or Archer or you sometimes get sucked into the subreddits far more often than a little bit. This is not your typical movie, sure its super violent but its not an action film and it can't be taken in like that. I give this movie a full price. What the hell I enjoyed the shit out of this movie. I was in tears about half the time and there's some really quotable lines in this. Make sure you stick around through the credits for a bonus scene with Zachariah. </div>
